Civil Law Overview
Bugden & Isaacson, L.L.C., is a renowned Salt Lake City law firm that provides exceptional trial representation for individuals in a range of criminal, civil, and administrative matters throughout the state of Utah. Our civil law practice is focused primarily in the area of civil rights matters, including those involving allegations of police misconduct. Additionally, our experienced trial lawyers devote a significant portion of their practice to business and real estate litigation, including contract disputes.
Civil Rights Law
Civil rights include freedom of speech, freedom of assembly, and the right to equality in public places. It is illegal to deny someone's civil rights because of his or her membership in a particular group or class, such as people of a certain race, sex, religion, age, national origin, or sexual orientation. Our civil rights laws allow individuals to sue for injury when their rights or privileges have been violated. If you believe your constitutional rights have been violated, the skilled trial attorneys at Bugden & Isaacson can help.
Police Misconduct
At Bugden & Isaacson, we have significant expertise in the area of civil rights law and police misconduct, also known as police brutality. If you have been injured as a result of a law enforcement officer's use of excessive force, you may be entitled to compensation.
Allegations of police misconduct also come into play in criminal cases. In 2008, we represented two defendants who were accused of "interfering with arrest" and were tasered by police. The jury acquitted our clients of any wrongdoing.
Business and Real Estate Litigation
Our attorneys are skilled in all aspects of trial advocacy, and we routinely handle business law and real estate litigation matters. Whether you are involved in a contract dispute or are facing allegations of fraud or misrepresentation in the purchase or sale of residential or commercial property, we can help you understand your options, protect your rights and interests, and work to achieve a favorable outcome in your case.
Administrative Law and Representation Before Administrative Agencies
Our administrative law practice includes representing professionals before licensing boards and parents before the Division of Child and Family Services.
- Professional Licensing
We have successfully represented professionals, such as physicians, lawyers, teachers, realtors, and massage therapists who are facing potential action against their professional licenses. In 2005, Tara L. Isaacson successfully defended a massage therapist before the Board of Massage Therapy. In 2009, John W. Anderson was successful in defending a Certified Nursing Assistant against abuse charges and overturning an adverse decision by the Department of Health.
- Division of Child and Family Services Litigation
We have successfully opposed the State of Utah in a number of cases involving allegations of child abuse. In a three-day administrative hearing in 2005, we successfully defended a mother falsely accused of committing emotional abuse.
